New problems surfaced for them as their children became smarter than\nthem, or some moved abroad. There are many MG Seniors without their children\nand grandchildren in this country.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eThis collection attempts to highlight some of the issues\nfacing this group who had to cope with such emotional issues, modern technology\nand the fast pace of life in modern Singapore. They are an admirable group as\nthey had the resilience to progress as this nation had progressed.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eThis book also celebrates the music industry of the 1960s\nand 70s, both locally and internationally.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cb\u003eAbout the Author\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cb\u003ePeranakan author Josephine Chia\u003c\/b\u003e is a Merdeka\nGeneration Senior. She grew up in the impoverished village of Kampung Potong\nPasir in the 1950s. Her family moved out of the village in 1975 during the\ndissolution of kampungs. Like many of her generation, she grew up with the\nnation as it moved from colonialism to independence. Many in the Merdeka\nGeneration helped build the country, experiencing the early hardships and,\nlater, enjoying the fruits of success.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eJosephine has published fifteen books, both fiction and\nnon-fiction, for adults as well as children. Her latest memoir, Ayam Buah\nKeluak and the Art of Writing, was published in 2024. Josephine has won several\nliterary prizes in Singapore and the UK. She was a finalist for the UK’ s Ian\nSt James Award.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eIn 2014, she won the Singapore Literature Prize for her\nnon-fiction memoirs Kampong Spirit - Gotong Royong: Life in Potong Pasir, 1955\nto 1965. Her children’ s novel Queen of the Sky was shortlisted for the\nScholastic Asian Book Award 2018. In 2019, she won the Singapore Publishers\nBook Award for her first YA novel Big Tree in a Small Pot.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eJosephine is a speaker and creative writing mentor.
