Running from 21 August to 5 September, the Singapore Night Festival promises a spectacular after-dark experience. The event transforms the Bras Basah.Bugis (BBB) creative precinct into a sensory stage through immersive artworks, stunning light projections, captivating installations, and experiential activities. Returning for its 17th edition, this year’s theme — Myths and Legends — draws heavily from familiar Southeast Asian folklore, allowing modern audiences to engage with the heritage and cultural nuances that shaped our country and its people, leaving behind a legacy we can proudly call our own.

To enjoy the festival at its best and ensure a smooth experience for everyone in the family, here’s your multi-generational ‘survival guide’ to this highly anticipated event.

1. Time your visit for comfort

While the event officially kicks off at 7:30PM, crowds typically swell after 8:30PM, so you may want to arrive earlier around 7:15PM before the installations light up. This will allow the family to enjoy the early evening breeze and appreciate the first few shows in a less congested environment.

As family members often have different physical stamina and comfort levels, it is wise to plan your route around air-conditioned venues. Incorporating stops at the museums, the National Library, or food establishments offers perfect opportunities to rest and recharge. For added peace of mind, also note that the main first aid station and information counter are located at SMU Campus Green in case of emergencies.

2. Pace the night: choose zones suited for all mobility levels

Exploring the entirety of the night festival can take approximately three hours on foot, so pacing yourself is crucial to ensure older family members and young children stay comfortable throughout the night. While the festival routes are largely step-free and wheelchair-accessible, selecting the right zones can make the experience much more enjoyable.

Zone 1, which stretches from Funan to CHIJMES, features wide, flat, and well-paved walkways that are friendly for both strollers and wheelchairs. It is also the perfect area for families to explore the beautiful installations within CHIJMES, interact with the mesmerising shadow projections at Raffles City, and discover creative ways to upcycle discarded industrial textiles at Capitol Square.
Zone 3, which includes Bras Basah Complex & Waterloo Centre, will highly appeal to older adults or senior family members who enjoy reminiscing about nostalgic traditions. This zone features a diverse range of cultural experiences from xinyao (新谣) performances to creative art showcases, alongside comfortable community rest spots for the family. And while you are at it, be sure to visit our flagship store, POPULAR Bras Basah Complex, to pick up some SingLit books in support of the local literary community or to grab your festival ‘survival kit’.

3. Pack the ultimate ‘survival kit’

A smooth family outing starts with being prepared for Singapore’s tropical heat and the physical demands of a night spent exploring. Pop by your nearest POPULAR Bookstore to grab these festival essentials to make your experience more enjoyable!

  • Beat the heat: While the event happens at night, Singapore’s heat and humidity cannot be underestimated. Pick up lightweight mini fans for the whole family to beat the heat. We recommend the powerful JisuLife Neck Fan Life5 that allows you to enjoy the night hands-free, or the Aecooly Foldable Handheld Fan with Mirror if you need a quick touch-up before snapping those memorable family photos.

  • Stay hydrated: Long walks can easily trigger thirst and hunger, making it crucial to keep everyone hydrated and have snacks on hand. We recommend the Metallic Stainless Steel Bottle, which keeps drinks cold and ensures a spill-proof experience. Need to satisfy your toddler’s sudden hunger pangs? We love the Wel-B Freeze Dried Apple for a healthy guilt-free indulgence.

  • Keep little ones occupied: Pack items to keep the active children engaged, such as books or toys, in between performance breaks or during meal times. We recommend Murdle Junior: Sleuths on the Loose or Rubik's Crystal, the classic colour-matching puzzle toy.
