In Age of Imprisonment, Princess Zelda is accidentally sent back in time to the Era of Myth, the founding of Hyrule. There, she finds herself alongside her ancestors, King Rauru and Queen Sonia, at the very beginning of the Imprisoning War, an invasion led by the Demon King Ganondorf. 

For the first time in a Hyrule Warriors title, the story is confirmed to be canon to the Zelda timeline, revealing the previously untold tale of how the Sages and heroes of the past came together to defeat Ganondorf. 

Gameplay features

• Hack-and-slash combat: Developed by Koei Tecmo, the game combines the large-scale, one-vs-many battles of the Dynasty Warriors series with the world and characters of The Legend of Zelda.

• Playable characters: Battle through Ganondorf's legions as Princess Zelda, King Rauru, Queen Sonia, the Sages of the past, and new original heroes.

• Zonai device integration: Utilize Zonai devices in combat to gain an edge in battle. Use flame emitters, time bombs, and more to create combos or manipulate the battlefield.

• Sync Strikes: A new co-op mechanic allows two adjacent player-controlled characters to unleash a powerful combined attack, unique to the pair performing it.

• Two-player co-op: Play with a friend in either split-screen or via the GameShare feature. GameShare allows a user on a Switch 2 to stream the second-player experience to a different Switch family system.

• Visual and performance upgrades: Taking full advantage of the Switch 2's hardware, the game runs at a smooth 60 frames per second, a notable improvement over the previous Hyrule Warriors title.

• Deeper exploration: Battles will not be limited to the surface of ancient Hyrule, with portions of the campaign taking place in the mysterious depths below.
