The book remains an organised, systematic and detailed guide that will give Primary 5 and 6 pupils a valuable boost in knowledge and understanding of how to score well in the PSLE English exams. Unlike other guide books which may contain many practice sheets but only a few tips, this book is packed from cover to cover with advice, explanations and examples to help pupils understand the trickiest aspects of the English language. The layout is welcoming and reader-friendly — a blend of words, illustrations, diagrams and other visual aids — and includes cute elements, such as a cartoon penguin and a cartoon cloud, that make it fun and easy for primary school-age children to focus on important rules highlighted in the book.
Parents will also be able to understand better how to guide their child as the author is able to share tips on what teachers are looking for in the exams.
All four papers of the English syllabus are covered:
• Paper 1: Writing (Situational Writing and Continuous Writing)
• Paper 2: Language Use and Comprehension (including Grammar, Cloze and Synthesis/Transformation)
• Paper 3: Listening Comprehension
• Paper 4: Oral Communication
The author has also identified the more common problem areas that pupils should take especial note of. Two chapters that will be extremely helpful are “15 Trickiest Rules in Grammar” and “10 Trickiest Rules in Synthesis and Transformation”. The book comes with two perforated sheets of 18 full-colour tearout flash cards that can be easily detached and carried around as a handy guide to some of the more confusing aspects of English.
