This book has been created specifically to support Upper Secondary students in mastering
Paper 2: Comprehension, an important component of the syllabus that accounts for 35% of
the overall English grade.
Paper 2 comprises three key sections.
Section A – Visual Text Comprehension: Students analyse a multimodal text combining images
and language that aims to inform, persuade, or entertain.
Section B – Narrative / Recount Text: A literary passage is presented to test close reading,
inference, evaluation, and appreciation of language use.
Section C – Non-Narrative Text & Summary: Students engage with an informational text,
answer structured questions, and demonstrate the ability to summarise key ideas concisely.
These components are designed to encourage students to read critically, interpret meaning
beyond the surface, and understand how writers use language for effect. In line with these
objectives, the practice papers in this book have been carefully modelled after the latest SEAB
requirements and incorporate relevant, contemporary themes to better prepare students for
examination demands.
This resource will support students throughout their upper secondary journey, helping them
gain confidence, sharpen their analytical abilities, and achieve mastery of the comprehension
components in the O-Level English Language examination.
